It’s true what they say about good things in small packages, and the S1 mini is no exception.

Well-thought-out design makes each function easy to access. A large push-to-talk button sits right on the front of the device, and it’s surrounded by a ring of LED light. The colour of this light will tell you about the device’s current mode and status. A standard 3.5mm audio in at the top keeps the S1 mini feeling sleek as it sits neatly next to the built-in antenna. Keep your devices organised using the coloured labels that you can also write on, so everyone knows which one is which.

Loud and clear

While the S1 mini has a built-in speaker and microphone, connecting an earpiece is when this device really shines. The fantastic quality audio makes it perfect for when colleagues need to talk to each other but not broadcast the conversation, such as retail workers on a busy shop floor checking stock with a colleague in the storeroom, or front of house restaurant staff being called to take an order from the kitchen. A PTT button on the included earpiece means there’s no fumbling around before transmitting.

The S1 mini has a built-in spring-loaded clip, and thanks to its diminutive size it can be attached to thinner fabrics like a shirt placket or collar, as well as belts or waistbands. The long attachable loop also means you could wear it around your neck for added simplicity, while being sure that it’s securely on your person.

Radios never looked so good

Just when you thought radio design had been nailed down, Hytera have taken it a step in a sleeker direction with the S1. Typically function presides over form for business radios, with buttons and dials that dominate the handset. By trimming out unnecessary bulk, Hytera has designed a lithe but brilliantly functioning two-way radio that weighs only 135g.

The slim profile sits comfortably in the hand, and when attached to a belt or vest doesn’t pull or drag at clothing. Smooth finishes in metallic grey or pearl white add a touch of flair while preserving visual appeal by hiding fingerprint marks from handling. The PTT button on the front has a fine, phonograph record-like texture, while the second PTT button on the side is recessed and ribbed, making it easy to know what you’re pressing without having to look at the device. Like the S1 mini, LEDs down the centre front indicate the mode and function of the S1.

Talking power

For a radio that’s svelte in looks, the S1 doesn’t compromise on communication prowess. With a battery life of up to 27 hours (0.5W) working time, and 360 hours standby, users won’t have to worry about recharging while on shift. Additionally, these radios cover 3-5 floors and 3-5km in urban areas. That’s indoor communication coverage of more than 10,000 square feet.

Accessories

A detachable spring-loaded clip allows you to have your S1 where you like on your person: on a belt or waistband, snugly clipped to a vest or jacket, or simply in a pocket if you’re using the optional earpiece. For added physical security, you can use the included loop that’s long enough to enable you to wear the S1 around your neck.

What takes the S Series up a notch is the cloning capabilities, whether you use the free Hytera Radio smartphone app, or make the most of the ingenious AirClone functionality.

Configure one radio with all the settings you want or need to customise, then in moments you can send those settings to all the other devices, as long as they’re all the same model.

For the S1, you may you want to set some more advanced options including grouping frequencies into zones or assigning the second PTT button to another team (yes you can do that!). You can still copy these settings to your other S1s with just a few taps with the Hytera Radio smartphone app.

Template settings

Adding more radios to your suite and quickly setting them up couldn’t be simpler with the template feature in the Hytera Radio smartphone app. When you configure an S Series device with the app, you can save those settings as a template. Then with any new S1 mini or S1 you add, you can use that template and copy all those settings across meaning you don’t need to have an already configured radio to hand to get the new one configured.
